Iron infusion · Geelong

Iron infusions in Geelong

Prescribed by your doctor and administered by an experienced registered nurse, in about 50 minutes, at our private clinic in the Geelong CBD.

How it works

Prescriber-directed iron, delivered by nurses

If your GP or specialist has diagnosed iron deficiency and prescribed an iron infusion, Fjör provides the clinical setting and nursing expertise to administer it, without the wait times of a hospital infusion unit.

You collect your prescribed iron from the pharmacy and bring it with you. Your nurse verifies your identity, your prescription and the medication itself before the infusion begins, monitors you throughout, and provides written aftercare guidance when you leave. A summary is sent to your referring doctor.

Patients with a history of allergic reaction to infusions may need a slightly longer appointment so we can observe you for longer afterwards. The fee is the same. Let us know when we confirm your booking.

Common questions

FAQs

Why do I need a prescription?

Intravenous iron is a prescription medicine. Your doctor confirms that an infusion is appropriate for you, chooses the product and the dose, and writes the script. We administer it as prescribed. This is a safety requirement in Australia and it protects you.

How do I store and transport the iron from the pharmacy?

Your pharmacist will advise storage for your specific product. Bring it directly to your appointment in its original packaging with the dispensing label intact. We can't administer medication without it.

Can I drive afterwards?

Most people can, but we'll confirm on the day based on how you're feeling during observation. If you've had reactions to infusions before, plan for someone to collect you.

What if I don't have a referral yet?

Start with your GP, since iron deficiency should always be investigated before it's treated. If your GP agrees an infusion is right for you, they can prescribe it and you can book with us directly.
