When delivered by qualified clinicians with proper assessment and monitoring, IV fluid administration is a routine clinical procedure. Your nurse assesses your suitability before every session and monitors you throughout. Some medical conditions make IV fluids unsuitable, which is what the assessment is for.
People with certain heart, kidney or blood pressure conditions may not be suitable. Tell your nurse about any medical conditions and medications during your assessment. If you're unsure, check with your GP first.
